Headshot photography is an essential aspect of personal branding and self-promotion, especially in today’s digital age.

Whether you’re a musician, an actor, or a business professional, a great headshot can help you stand out and make a lasting impression.

The Session

So, what should you wear for a headshot session?

First and foremost, it’s important to remember that your headshot should reflect your personal brand and the image you want to project. If you’re a corporate professional, you’ll want to dress in business attire, such as a suit or blazer. If you’re an actor, you may want to choose something that reflects the types of roles you’re interested in.

In general, it’s best to stick to solid, neutral colors, such as black, navy, gray, or beige. These colors tend to photograph well and won’t distract from your face. Avoid bright colors or bold patterns, as they can be distracting and draw attention away from your face.

Choose outfits that won’t be distracting in the images.

When it comes to fit, make sure your clothes are not too tight or too loose. Clothing that is too tight may appear stretched or distorted, while clothing that is too loose may appear baggy or unflattering. Tailoring your clothes can make a big difference in how they look in photographs.

Accessories are also important to consider. Jewelry and watches should be kept simple and not too flashy. Avoid large or dangly earrings or necklaces, as they can be distracting. It’s also important to consider your hair and makeup when planning your headshot session. Make sure your hair is styled in a way that you feel comfortable and confident in.

In summary, when preparing for a headshot session, it’s important to consider the image you want to project and choose clothing that reflects that image. Stick to solid, neutral colors and make sure your clothes are well-fitted. Avoid bright colors or bold patterns, and keep accessories simple. Make sure your hair and makeup are styled in a way that makes you feel confident and comfortable. With the right attire and preparation, you’ll be sure to capture an outstanding headshot that truly represents you and your brand.

The Session

How do the sessions run?

We work with you to decide whether you'd like your session to be outdoors or in a studio/on location.

Outdoors

We'll agree on a venue outdoors with plenty of different setups and textures we can use, but we'll need to be mindful of the weather.

Studio

We'll arrange for an indoor location, and we'll set up studio lights and backdrops to get you looking your best.

Once we’re at the session, we’ll have a brief discussion about what you’re looking for and what we’ll need to capture. After that, we can get rolling with the shoot and I’ll guide you through poses and expressions as we move between different setups and looks. You can bring outfit options and you can swap into those as we go so that we have a variety of looks.

After the session, I’ll send you a link to my client review site where you can choose your favourites online using the heart symbol on each photo. You can make your favourites list, save it, and come back to it later if you need to take some time choosing. Once you’ve finished you can send me the selection through the website and I’ll get started on the edits. When they’re completed I’ll send you a link to download your final images.
